Whistleblower John Barnett Found Dead

Former Boeing Quality Control Manager Was Suing Company for Retaliation

Police Investigating Death as Suspicious

John Barnett, a former Boeing quality control manager who became a whistleblower, was found dead in his home in Charleston, South Carolina, on March 9, 2024. He was 62.

Barnett had worked for Boeing for more than 30 years before retiring in 2017. In the days before his death, he had been giving evidence in a lawsuit in which he accused Boeing of retaliating against him for raising safety concerns about the company's 737 Max aircraft.

Police are investigating Barnett's death as suspicious. No arrests have been made.

Barnett's death has raised concerns about the safety of Boeing's aircraft and the company's treatment of whistleblowers. In 2019, two Boeing 737 Max planes crashed, killing 346 people. Investigators have said that a design flaw in the aircraft's flight control system was a factor in both crashes.

Barnett had raised concerns about the 737 Max's flight control system as early as 2013. He claimed that Boeing ignored his warnings and that the company retaliated against him for speaking out.

Barnett's lawsuit against Boeing was scheduled to go to trial in April 2024. His death is a major setback for the case.

Barnett's family and friends have said that they are devastated by his death. They have called for a full investigation into his death and for Boeing to be held accountable for its actions.
